TAKE-OFFS  by Tristam Burrell

 

This is a principle I often use:-  On takeoff; I reverse inflate, check, turn, and then wait for lift to pick me up and off.  There's nothing wrong with waiting until the wing is flying at its best before allowing it to launch you.  The wing launches you, and not the other way around.  

This doesn't work too well if the site is thermic and turbulent though.  Then it's better to build up as much speed as you can by running, to ensure your wing doesn't stall.  It really depends on the site, and the strength of the wind.  If the prevailing wind is light; the thermals often lift straight-up off the base of the slope, but if you ran off and flew out, you might be pleasantly surprised...
